Stewart "Bud" Cassell, PT, ATC, Co-Owner of Physical Edge

Bud has been a resident of Davis for 28 years. He received his Certificate of Physical Therapy in 1972 from the University of Iowa. Bud has over 33 years of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer. In addition, he has extensive outpatient and rehabilitation experience that includes: Former owner of Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation of Davis; Head Athletic Trainer for Sacramento Sate and U.C. Davis. Bud has also completed extensive post graduate training in orthopedics. Bud has a special interest in treatment and prevention of golf injuries.



Mathew Moore, MPT, Co-Owner of Physical Edge

Mat received his Master’s of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine, Florida in 1996.  He has completed advanced post graduate training in orthopedic manual therapy from the Folsom Physical Therapy and Training Center.  Mat is certified in Functional Movement Screening and has extensive experience in treatment of spinal disorders.  He is a life-long resident of Davis and founder of the Physical Edge Back Training Program.


Brian T. Padilla, MS, PT, CSCS

Brian received his Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, New York.  He is also certified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.  Brian has helped direct numerous spine rehabilitation programs incorporating the latest strategies utilized in sports programs, to those in treating chronic pain.  He has presented at medical conferences and helped coordinate rehabilitation and injury prevention programs for companies nationwide.  He enjoys speaking at workshops and seminars on topics of injury prevention, sports performance and fitness.


Nicole Nosek, DPT, ATC

Nicole received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of the Pacific.  She is also a Certified Athletic Trainer.  She enjoys treating patients with various diagnoses, with a special interest in orthopedic and sport-related injuries. She firmly believes in actively involving the patient in their rehabilitation program.  Nicole is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopedic Section and the National Athletic Trainers Association.  She has presented seminars on various topics such as exercise prescription and injury prevention.  Through continuing education, she has recently attended a running course and a Pilates reformer instructor training course for rehabilitation professionals through Balanced Body University. 


Tessa Knea, DPT

Tessa is an alumnus of UC Davis and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of the Pacific. She enjoys working with pediatric patients as well as with people of varying ages and diagnoses. Tessa is fluent in Spanish, enhancing her dialect during a study abroad program to Spain as an undergrad. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the California Physical Therapy Association.  Tessa is excited to join the team at Physical Edge and to continue to further her knowledge with upcoming continuing education.


Adam Wooden, MPT

Adam received his Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy from California Sate University, Sacramento. He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and regularly attends state and national conferences.  Adam has a passion for orthopedic and neurological physical therapy. He looks forward to working with patients at Physical Edge in these areas as well as taking advanced post graduate training courses to further his knowledge and skill. 


Katrin Mattern-Baxter, PT, DPT, PCS

Katrin Mattern-Baxter, PT, DPT, PCS received her training as a physical therapist at Freiburg University in Germany and completed her post-professional doctorate at A.T. Still University.  She has completed residency training in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation at Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Vallejo, CA and is certified in Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT).  In 2006, Katrin received the American Physical Therapy Association’s Board Certification as a Pediatric Certified Specialist.

In addition to maintaining her clinical practice in early intervention (ARCR vendor since 2004), school-based services and private practice, Katrin teaches as an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at University of the Pacific in Stockton. She is a published author in the international peer-reviewed literature, and actively pursues research on young children with neuromotor impairment.
